Sleeping without air-con

A good way to save electricity is by sleeping without turning on the air-con. A ceiling fan is more than enough, and anyway, when you’re asleep, it doesn’t really matter if the air-con is off. I sleep without the air-con every night, but when I open the windows and use a ceiling fan, it’s almost as cool as an air-con. Sometimes my dad comes in and asks me if I want to turn on the air-con, I always say “no”.  If you are too used to sleeping with the air-con on, try slowly making the temperature hotter, till it is completely off. If you just HAVE to use an air-con when you sleep (that shouldn’t happen), then put the air-con on timer, so it automatically switches off after a few hours. If your air-con doesn’t have a timer, get somebody that is staying up late and ask that person to switch it off for you before he/she goes to bed. Just by doing this,  you save so much money and electricity. Air-cons cost about 14-36 sen and use 1.2-3 kilowatts per hour, in Malaysia. Ceiling fans cost about 1 sen and use 30 watts an hour. So the next time you want to switch the air-con on, you better think twice 🙂 .

  1. This is a nice post. How much money does it help save a year? How does this help the environment? Are you the only one doing this at home? Will be great if you can edit your post to include these.
